P-160 Solid Waste Management Facility

P160 Solid Waste Facility

Kelsey Structural provided design-build services for the new NAVFAC P-160 Solids Waste Facility.  Structural design included pre-engineered building foundations for both a 40,000 sqft Solid Waste Management building with covered canopy area and a 966 sqft Maintenance building.  Additional design included a Wastewater Treatment Facility, Steel Fire Storage Tank and Pump House, debris fence, various site equipment foundations with anchorage design and influent splitter box/sumps/vaults.  The project required the use of BIM modeling using Revit 3D.

SLRWRF Recycled Water Tank

Kelsey Structural provided the structural design and review for a new 2.0 MG Recycled Water Tank for the City of Oceanside San Luis Rey Water Reclamation Facility (SLRWRF). The new tank is a partially-buried AWWA D110 prestressed concrete tank measuring 107’ in diameter and 34’ tall, with two-way concrete roof slab system supported by 21 columns.  Structural design included D110-13 tank core wall, vertical and circumferential prestressing, seismic cables, bearing pads, two-way concrete roof slab and columns, wall footings and thickened slab-on-grade foundation designed to accommodate differential settlements across the radius of the tank. Design considerations were made for soil subgrade preparation due to liquefaction potential at the site, and required soil improvements by means of wet soil mixing to minimize potential settlement of the tank.  Kelsey Structural served as the Structural Engineer of Record, stamping both the structural calculation package and structural drawings.

EVMWD Reservoir Assessments

Kelsey Structural provided the assessment of 7 AWWA D100 steel reservoirs within the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District’s (EVMWD) water supply system.  The assessments consisted of field investigations to document the structural condition of each reservoir, structural and seismic analysis to determine compliance with current code requirements and development of assessment reports documenting investigation findings, improvement recommendations, rehabilitation costs and a ranking/prioritization of each reservoir.  Floating and drained inspections were performed for each reservoir as part of field investigations allowing the team to develop more accurate recommendations and cost estimates for the District.

EMWD TVRWRF Air Line Replacement

Kelsey Structural provided the structural design-build services for a series of aeration pipe supports at the existing Eastern Municipal Water District’s Temecula Valley Regional Water Reclamation Facility.  Design included various pipe supports for 36” and 18” diameter stainless steel air piping including ground-mounted stanchions, kicker supports to existing Aeration Basins and Primary Clarifiers and a 32’ long pipe bridge spanning over an existing access road.  Design considerations for expansion couplers, large thrust loads, existing structure loading and poor soils at the site required detailed coordination with the client and contractor.

LACSD North Bay Pump Station

Kelsey Structural is providing the design of the new North Bay Pump Station for the Lake Arrowhead Community Services District in Lake Arrowhead, CA.  Design includes a new, two-level, below grade concrete pump station, retrofit of an existing CMU electrical room, and new CMU bathrooms.  The new pump station is located in one of the highest seismic regions in California and is also just a few hundred feet from the lake shore which required design considerations for groundwater and extreme seismic ground motions.  Sloping backfill and buoyancy were also design concerns that were accounted for when sizing the concrete walls and foundations.  Waterstops and stringent reinforcement spacing requirements were used to help ensure a watertight and crack-free structure to increase the longevity of the pump station.
