General Atomics Sorrento Valley Flood Wall

Kelsey Structural is performing the structural design of a new site flood wall for General Atomics (GA) in San Diego, CA.  Recent flooding in the Sorrento Valley area of San Diego has prompted GA to construct cantilever flood walls around several of their buildings to prevent flooding of the buildings and protect the tenant services being performed.  The walls consist of cantilever concrete-masonry unit construction with concrete foundations and required careful design for the high flood water pressures coupled with low resisting forces for sliding and overturning design.  Deepened keys were required to help resist the sliding forces.

KB Homes Retaining Wall Investigation

Kelsey Structural provided the structural services for KB Homes to verify construction of an existing retaining wall requiring approval with the County of San Diego. The 250’-0” long wall consists of masonry construction with a max retained height of 10’-8” and was built in 2007. Kelsey Structural (KS) developed an investigation program identifying critical structural elements requiring verification along with proposed locations. KS observed and documented the findings comparing them with the original contract documents and provided a report of the findings.
